11-year old Arielle, who’s passions are Hip-Hop and Break dancing was asked what the purpose of art is. She answered, “to express our emotions.” I then asked how that helps her, and she responded, “If I dance in the morning, it makes me feel great the rest of the day. I’ll feel like I wanna do more things, like I’m on a roll, and I can learn more.”
As a teacher, I know this to be true for all students. Building lessons around the ability of students to express their emotions, ideas, understanding, and creativity develops humanity in education.
