Sing, Dance, and be Human in Brazil

With all of the focus on serious, highbrow studies that have been done to examine the social, cognitive, and biological benefits of the arts, we can sometimes forget the most basic and powerful impacts of the arts. Of these benefits is art’s ability to get us out from the daily grind and to allow us to have a good time and just be present.

Of all of the countries I’ve visited on my Art is Power tours, Brazil seems to understand this best. During Carnival, people come together to sing, dance, decorate themselves to look as bright as the exotic birds in the near by jungles, and celebrate what it is to be human.

After couch surfing in different cities in Brazil, experiencing Carnival, and connecting with the artists who are the voice of Brazil, I can see that Brazil truly understands why art is power.
