Lien Do is a teacher who possesses a deep belief in the power of the Arts to provide students with a personal and creative platform to document, showcase, and share their knowledge. She personally appreciates that the Arts are the universal language that helped her throughout her journey as a learner of a new language, culture, and society. Originally from Vietnam, Lien relocated to Dayton, Ohio at 6 years old and was confronted with a new culture surrounded by unfamiliar words and sounds. She relied on the rhythms of music to help her learn English, and by 3rd grade developed a love for self- expression through writing poetry. Lien also learned to interact with the world through photography and painting and brought those abilities into her pedagogy as a teacher. She uses her experience and knowledge to transform her classroom into a safe and supportive environment that uses the Arts to encourage students to take risks and maintain a sense of curiosity about the world around them. Lien aims to inspire and show students and teachers to use the Arts as a tool for building confidence, accessing, and sharing knowledge across all subjects and grade levels. Testimony to the effectiveness of her methods can be found in the way she successfully incorporates the Arts into her reading intervention program.
